Virgil is guest of honor at meetup in the park
Last week we had a meetup in the park in Greensboro for everyone who has been so generous in their love and support of Virgil and here are a few of the pictures.

Amazing Virgil on the treadmill at physical therapy
Virgil continues to amaze everyone
Virgils first savior
This is Matt from Forsyth Co shelter. He could have euthanized Virgil due to the extensive injuries. He didn't though. He called BTRNC and became the first person in Virgil's life to do good by him. Virgil recently went back for a visit.

Virgil's favorite thing

Chilling and getting a massage
Virgil continues to amaze!!!!
This is a video off the last few minutes of Virgil's PT. He is using all 4 legs. :-). It's like he just decided the leg has had enough rest. We have to proceed slowly for now. He has to work on regaining muscle strength and increase the amount of weight the leg can support. You go Virgil. You are amazing.

Virgil's Water Therapy

Virgil is doing very well with water therapy. As you can see he loves treats He will do most anything that is asked of him if he thinks there is a treat involved. As a matter of fact he gets all excited when he knows we are going for a car ride. When we arrive at the Vet's office he can't get out of the car and inside fast enough. Pretty sure it is the promise of treats calling.

Virgil and Mom do the water exercise at home as well. Massage and heat treatment remain his favorite pass time in Mom's lap. He accepts the fact that Mom will be stretching his leg during the massage. There is also slow walks on lead, and balance games through out the day. He continues to use his injured leg a little more each day.

This little guy works so hard for his treats and words of encouragement. Good boy Virgil.

Virgil on the Warble Board

This video is of Virgil on a warble board. This exercise is similar to the balance ball, working to develop strength, balance and placing the leg in a proper position.
Video of Virgil in Physical therapy
This is a video of Virgil working with Dr. McCourt on the balance ball. The purpose of this exercise is to encourage Virgil to place his injured leg (left rear) on the floor correctly, recover of muscle strength and balance.
As he gets familiar with the activities he seems to enjoy doing what is asked of him.

Virgil started Physical Therapy
Virgil just had his second session of Physical Therapy with Dr. McCourt. In the picture he is learning to bear weight and use his injured leg for balance. Virgil works very hard during therapy. He comes home and sleeps until lunch. At home he and his Foster Mom have two sessions a day. Moist heat is applied to his injured leg after which Mom works on stretching the muscles and scar tissue so that Virgil can maintain flexibility and range of motion. They also do some Walking drills to encourage him to use his leg.

Virgil also works hard at being as good as he can be. He now uses the doggy door. He even waits to be shown which doggy bed he should use. He is the best dog this Foster Mom has ever had in her home.

Virgil in the Sun

Virgil having lunch outside

Virgil thought he would enjoy having lunch outside in the sun today. You probably can tell from this pic, but he is starting to get some "meat" on his bones. He's strength continues to improve. He is able to spend more time standing, sitting and walking around. Even with all the time he HAD to spend outdoors, he still loves to be outside.
I've been able to introduce Virgil to all of our other four legged family. All like and respect his age and condition except Howie, the youngster of the bunch, he always wants to play with everyone. All visits are closely monitored with Howie and Virgil is never without a human when he is out if his kennel. He is so very patient with all my hovering and protection.
I'm doing some gentile therapy to try and stretch the muscles of his injured leg. It seems painful still, so I'm going slow until he sees the Vet Thursday to remove his stitches.
