Myrtle the Turtle
That's her new nickname, says her foster mom. She's gained much needed weight, just over 2 pounds. She's a beast of an eater!
Her liver levels have not stabilized, they are even higher. There was quite a bit of fat in her blood which indicated that her liver isn't metabolizing fat, so the doctor recommends putting her on a low fat diet which Jennifer is doing. The vet wants to do an ultrasound on her (the one she had previously had done was a cardiac ultrasound to ensure that her heart was healthy enough to undergo anesthesia for her surgeries) and take a look at her liver. The vet doesn't suspect cancer because she doesn't feel any tumors, but she does say the fact that her liver enzymes continue to go up rapidly does indicate something is wrong. Since about 90% of what we ingest has to go through the liver, it is crucial we find out what is going on and why she isn't metabolizing fat and why the enzymes continue to climb. She still hasn't ruled out Cushings disease. What is going on will be revealed by the ultrasound.

Myrtle also has some additional lumps and bumps on her. The vet said they were just "old lady growths" and none at all appear to be mall cell tumors or anything threatening.
She has also been noticeably limping for the past week and a half so the vet looked at that as well. It seems the extra weight she has put on has been affecting her left shoulder and wrist. She has progressed arthritis in her carpal and shoulder joints. The Tramadol that she is on should keep her comfortable and she is also getting glucosamine.
